The left and right arrows turn your car, and holding the left mouse button steers as well. There is no brake here, only direction.
Everyone on the platform is trying to push everyone else off, and each opponent you throw out increases your hit power. That makes the middle of a fight the safest place to be once you have a few knockouts, and the edge the most dangerous place while you still have none.
