You plant towers and lead units rather than fighting directly. Every unit has different characteristics, so a line is built from the ones that suit what is coming.
Renegade stickmen are invading the institutions and the White House is what you are protecting. Since the units differ, placing the wrong type in front of a wave costs you the position rather than a few soldiers.
